How Many Tables and Chairs Do I Need for My Party?

2 min read

Here's the short answer: one chair for every guest, one 6 ft table for every 8 guests, and 2 or 3 more tables for food, drinks and gifts.

The easy math

  • Chairs: one per guest. Add a few extra if you're not sure who's coming.

  • Guest tables: divide your guest count by 8 and round up. Each 6 ft table seats 6 to 8 people.

  • Extra tables: add 2 or 3 for food, drinks, gifts, a cake or a DJ.

Common party sizes

  • 25 to 32 guests: 4 guest tables and 32 chairs, plus 1 or 2 extra tables.

  • 50 guests: 7 guest tables and 50 chairs, plus 2 or 3 extra tables.

  • 100 guests: 13 guest tables and 100 chairs, plus 3 extra tables.

  • 150-guest ceremony: 150 chairs in rows with a center aisle, plus 2 tables for the sign-in book and programs.
