What Size Tent Do I Need? A Simple Guest-Count Guide

Picking a tent comes down to one question: how many people need to be under it at the same time? Count your guests, decide whether they'll sit at tables or mostly stand and mingle, and use the guide below.

Quick guide

  • 20x20 high peak tent: about 30 guests seated at tables, or about 50 standing. Great for backyard birthdays, cookouts and small get-togethers.

  • 20x30 frame tent: about 50 guests seated, or about 75 standing. Our most popular size for birthdays, showers and graduations.

  • 20x40 pole tent: about 70 guests seated, or about 100 standing. Built for weddings, reunions and bigger parties.

  • Two tents (20x40 + 20x30): about 120 guests seated, with room to use one tent for dining and the other for food, music or dancing.

Seated or standing?

A sit-down meal needs room for tables and chairs, so plan on the seated numbers. A drop-in party where people walk around, eat from a buffet and come and go can fit closer to the standing numbers. If you're in between, go one size up. Nobody ever complains about extra room.

Don't forget the extras

Food tables, a gift table, a DJ or a dessert table all take space. If you plan to put two or three of those under the tent, count them like 8 to 10 extra guests.

Where the tent goes

Our tents are staked into the ground, so we set up on grass. Look for a fairly flat, open area with a few extra feet on every side for stakes and ropes. Not sure if your yard works? Text us a photo at (980) 362-0312 and we'll tell you which size fits.

Packages that match each size

Delivery, setup and pickup within 15 miles of Charlotte are included. We set up the day before your event and take everything down the day after, so you're never rushed.
